On Friday 4th April, contemporary and revival roots reggae night Rootikal rocks in to Brixton with Addis Pablo and Suns of Dub, and we have one  pair of tickets to give away for the night.

Putting his focus on Suns of Dub this year, Addis Pablo (son of the legendary Augustus Pablo) has pre-released over 100 tracks as singles and EPs with Ras Jammy. Check out their SoundCloud page to hear more.

Mainly focusing on Dub & New Age Dub Reggae – their debut album, ‘House of My Father’ was released on 4th March on the JahSolidRock label. Playing the melodica ( the same instrument as his legendary and much-missed father) Addis will play a selection of his new material alongside classics from his father’s vast repertoire.

He’ll be joined by Mad Professor who has been a key player on the UK reggae scene for a long time now. He started his Ariwa label and studio in the mid-80s and has been responsible for some of the best and most important UK reggae ever recorded. He’ll be focusing on the roots side of things at Rootikal and will be bringing his desk to perform live mix-downs of his classic productions.

Earl 16 has been on the scene for a very long time now, as a youth he recorded in Kingston with Hermon Chin Loy, Lee Perry and Joe Gibbs, later working with Augustus Pablo, Linval Thompson, Mikey Dread, Coxsone and Yabby U.

Earl’s sessions have given us classics like ‘Malcolm X’ (above), ‘The World Has Begun’, which was produced by Earl Morgan of The Heptones, and ‘African Tribesman’, which came on Dave Hendley’s much sought-after Sufferer Heights label. In the mid-80s Earl moved to London, where he worked with Mad Professor, Nick Manasseh, Leftfield and Dreadzone.

The Rootikal crew of David Hill and Mr Faso (above) will also be spinning in the main room, ably assisted by Oxman on the mic, and Real Roots, with room 2 hosted by Dubplate Pearl and Sweetie, who will be coming with a soulful selection.
